What is there to do in the Perth area?

I will be in perth for 4 weeks from the 18th of dec and I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on what to do, also is there anywhere worth visiting for a few days not more than 2-3 hours drive away.
I'm Irish if that makes any difference and yes I know it's really hot this time of the year so you don't have to remind me thanks
