Default Does my son need a passport to travel to Japan for vacation, he is in the

military, stationed in Germany.? He is deployed to Afghanistan for right now, plans on going to Japan within a week from getting back to the duty station.

He's travelling to another country - but not with his military group or status, so yes, I would say he would need a passport.

Yes. He can on travel to a foreign country when he is on military orders. While he is on leave he will need a passport to travel internationally.

If he is traveling to Japan on his own time he will need a passport. If he is stationed in Germany he will need to go to the U.S. consulate and apply.
