Traveling from Rome To Barcelona for 2 weeks. Where should we stop along

the way (traveling along coast)? Looking to stick on the coast, but if it is worth a trip inland, I'm all for it. Was also considering renting a car for the trip. Is that wise? OR should I look to do it all by train. My concern is that I'd be a little limited on places to visit that are off of the train route.
