how long do i need on my passport to travel to portugal?

My friend has just booked a surprise trip to Portugal for me in july my passport expires in june.. I have just applied for a renewal all details still being the same will I still be ok to travel

As long as you get your new passport in time you will be.
Travel on expired passport is something between the US and Canada - not if you come over to Europe.
However, if you are from another European country you should be even ok with your expired passport
