Not only in public. It is against the law to play cards --
period. It is against the law to play Old Maid, or Fish, with
your kids. It wouldn't surprise me if it was against the law to
play Solitaire.

If some one turns you in for playing cards at home police will
burst into your house and arrest anyone inside. Usual fine is
3000 baht for players, 5000 baht for owner of house. It can go
higher. 98% of all arrests for illegal gambling are housewives
who got turned in. If you must play cards go to one of the many
illegal casinos. You'll be safe there.
